Birds Of A Feather

I can see one of our bird feeders from my bedroom window and love to wake up and watch everyone start their day (much earlier than I do). I was especially happy to see some takers on the latest pine cones.

I'm not sure who this cheeky bird is, but she's the Iris of the avian world. The police. She (or he, I suppose) was not at all happy with the grackles trying to move in and if it had been a bit lighter, I'd have taken a video. One tough cookie!

We are still under that midwestern deep freeze, like so much of the country. Remember to keep your feeders full and put a water heater in your bird bath.

In the winter I always spend a little extra on the bird seed esp. the thistle feed. I get a lot of cardinals at my feeders as I use a deluxe mix that has safflower in it. I really need to get a better camera to get the close up pics of the birds! Love your picture of those fine featherd friends:)

I bought a heated water dish for the wild birds during our cold snap, and never once saw one use it!

Great zoomed in snapshots of a bird brave enough to stay for the winter. It's neat that you have captured the colors of the bird blending in with the bush and the background. Very cool, cardworthy photos.

Nice photos!

It is hard to capture the birds, they flit around so much ;-)

ps...my chickens have a water heater, but the wild birds use the river or the creek. Wish I had a water heater for my angora rabbit, I am out there several times a day switching out the water crocks!

Our pipes are frozen for the second day in a row. Guess those dirty dishes will just have to wait ;)
