Punkin's Yarn

I finally started spinning Punkin's last fleece during the Tour de Fleece this past year. I spun three more bobbins over the weekend and decided to see where I stood.

I had wound each bobbin off into a center pull ball and tried to pair them up to homogenize the yarn as best I could. I plied most of them during the game last night and finished up this morning. After pairing up 10 unmeasured balls of singles (to make a two ply yarn), I came out 1 yard different. That's probably of interest to no one but me ;-).

I washed my skeins during lunch and hung them to dry over the ladder next to the fire (very convenient!). I have 1600 yards of light worsted yarn. One skein is a tiny bit heavier and 2 skeins are slightly lighter, but other than that, I'm happy. I do have some roving left and I think I'll go ahead and spin that up so I can pick and choose which skeins I want so the Punkin sweater will be the very best it can be.

Now to pick a pattern... I'm leaning towards a ribbed mock turtleneck of some sort. Any suggestions?

I think that one yard difference is amazing! Lovely spinning; can't wait to see what you make with it. I've been stockpiling patterns for mock turtleneck and funnelneck sweaters; I think there are quite a few of them in my Ravelry faves and queue. Can you access that to look at them? Here are a couple simple ones: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/77-20-pullover-in-safran-and-cotton-viscose, http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rugged-raglan-2
Here's a more complex one: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=0&d_id=553&lang=us
And I REALLY love this one, but the pattern link seems to be broken: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/anna-4

I love sweaters but I find I get too hot in them nowadays (hot flashes) so I'm a shawl/wrap and vest gal now.
By the way I love the wooden ladder.

wow that is a lot of work..and i bet you smiled the entire time remembering your sweet Punkin' :-). I like the idea of the sweater only i would not do ribbing on the bottom..i would want it to hang loosely..makes for a much more "friendly" sweater!

Lovely! Nice to see how productive you have been!

What kind of wheel were you spinning on?

I know so little about what you do, but I certainly do appreciate it and can't wait to see the end result. Thank you Punkin!

What a beautiful array of skeins hanging in your wool house. I am awestruck by the consistency of your spinning and plying. Punkin would be so proud of your work. I hope you find just the right sweater that makes it all worthwhile. You surely get an "A" for Effective in this endeavor.

Since I am not a spinner or a weaver, but I used to knit and crochet, visitng you and learning the processes it takes to get skeins is really fun.

And to be able to wrap yourself in some form with Punkin's love is another very special gift.
