More years ago that I can believe, we bought a small flock of chickens - a nice rooster and a few hens. These chickens were a few years old and had lived in a chicken "tractor" their whole lives.
While they were frequently rolled from new spot to new spot and were definitely happier than chickens living in cages, when they got to our farm, able to roam free...boy, it was a chicken party! They quickly became known as The Adventure Chickens.
Two of the original Adventure Chickens remain. And probably after today, only one. The fat bottomed, feathered legged, fancy colored hen is not well. And at at least 10 years of age, it's not a shock, but still sad.
I've moved her into warm, sunny spots throughout the day and everywhere she's gone, her old friend has followed. Sometimes napping.
Sometimes just standing by.
And sometimes actually standing over her.
Don't ever wonder.
