Beautiful fall afternoon yesterday. I have no complaints; it's been a stunning season. And it's probably over. Rain moving in today and and a serious arctic blast to follow. Time to turn on the water heaters, figure out unfrozen water for Del Boca Vista, plug in the new cat (and hopefully not possum - don't ask :-o) beds in the condo, plastic up the chicken coop...
I felt a bit like Calvin and Hobbes or Bart Simpson...or myself...yesterday, trying to fit in a little bit of everything I wanted to do just a little bit more of before summer fall vacation was over. I took some pictures of the office cat at the vet's in town, rode Hickory, helped a friend block a scarf, did a tiny amount of spinning on the porch, took pictures of some pretty yarn (maybe a Yarn Along post tomorrow???) and watched the bees working the blanket flowers out front.
I've covered them for the first few frosts and they are blooming strong. I'll keep doing that until it doesn't work any longer. The bees have worked them heavy all fall. 22 degrees on Thursday will probably do them in. The flowers, not the bees.
In fact, just to prove how smart and hard working bees are, they've been showing up in the mornings a good bit before I remove the covers. So, they are remembering the flowers are there, not just randomly circling around and seeing the color.
Honey bees, bumble bees, little green bees. Hopefully it's helped them store up for winter. I'm afraid it's going to be another hard one.
Enjoy!
