Things That Make You Go "Awwww"

One day last week we had an impromptu "pony party" at the farm.  A neighbor came by with her three little girls and they wanted to meet the horses.  I've said all along that as long as Frankie had his grazing muzzle on (everything has to go in Frankie's mouth, especially fingers ;-) I'd trust him with a toddler hanging off his tail.  Frankie loves everyone and he's amazingly unflappable.

Lancelot is friendly to people that he knows...and likes...but he's big and not necessarily careful where he's stepping and I'm watchful with things like water hoses around his legs because he can get startled.  I was kind of glad I could expect him to stay down the hill, away from the little visitors. Oh, and he does not really like to have his face touched.

Who was the first horse to walk up and greet the princess wearing a fancy dress?  And let her touch his face?

"Awwww :-)"

So...

"Think we should go to the barn, Lancelot?"

"Yeah, maybe."

This was actually taken last week and I forgot to post it.  We didn't get any rain from that stormy sky, but did get a little rain from last night's sunny sky.

And a perfect rainbow :-).

Good Morning!

We've had some beautifully cool weather the last few days.  Makes for a pretty, foggy sunrise.  This is a fun puzzle :-).

Stand By Me

This might be my favorite horse picture to date.  At least the top five.  I wish Frankie didn't have his grazing muzzle on, but with all that green grass, it would be a death sentence if he didn't.  It sure is pretty, but it's not doing anyone any favors here...except a photographer.

Both this picture and yesterday's are new puzzles :-).  Enjoy!

I Hope Everyone Is Using Their Time Wisely

I know I am (I'm not :-/).  I took the biggest horse on the farm and shrank him down to Breyer Stablemate size and taught him to balance on a fence plank.  So there!

* * * * *

I have tons I want to post, the most important being our new baby chicks!  That was my plan this morning, but I got sidetracked by this funny picture of Lancelot.  If I'd gotten the chicks posted earlier in the week, I'd have said they were the "cutest" thing to post, but now Lamb Camp has started ...  :-D.

I will do better!  I will try to do better.  Everybody hang in there.

Well...

Well.

So I've tried to find the inspiration to post a blog.  I've even gone out on three occasions and taken some good pictures specifically for the blog.  I write "BLOG!" on my daily To Do list.  I don't know.

I've kept the Instagram feed going, which has been nice.  Sharing pictures and videos of the normal craziness of the farm is a respite for sure.  The ups and downs of the 2020 Iknitarod - no, I didn't finish...yet.  Rebecca Boone getting sick again...and now doing better again.  Frankie and Lancelot rolling in the mud.  Billy Belly sleeping with his head on Woolliam's back.

Billy Belly.  Billy Belly flew under the radar here for years, just another one of those crazy Jacobs who, while they might sneak up and take a cookie from you, really didn't want any other sort of attention.  He was probably 10 years old before I realized that whenever something was wrong with someone, Billy Belly was always there.

As Renny lay with her head in my lap that last morning, Billy Belly stood next to her.  He looked at her and then turned and looked at me.  I hope he wasn't looking for me to do something to help her and was disappointed that I couldn't.  Hopefully it was a look of understanding.  Maybe it was nothing more than a look.

I wish I could explain "looking".  I think about it a lot.  Cheeto lives here because she looked at me several years ago.  She still looks at me.  Lancelot looks at me in a way Frankie does not, even though Frankie does look at me all the time.  I never walk into the barn when I don't lock eyes with Maisie.  Everyone watches me, but only a few actually look at me.

Billy Belly is the sheep looking at me.

He was the caretaker of the flock, especially the old sheep.

I'm glad I took these pictures last week.  He got down the other day and couldn't get up on his own.  I was able to help him up the first day and he could then get around.  The second day he could no longer stand on his own...and he was completely over me trying to help.  He was older than the blog.  To the best of my recollection he'd have been 15 next month.

I hope everyone is okay.  I really don't have any words...but I can share pictures.  And a new puzzle.

Shhhhh

We have big white sheep guardian dogs...and a big white Frankie guardian horse.  I'm guessing Jared might be staying out there because of his horses nearby.  He could make a commercial as the most interesting sheep in the world.

Lancelot was a little worried about the sheep and nearby cows when he first got here, but I think Frankie convinced him they were okay.  Frankie, who has been very nervous around tractors/ATV/The Unit has learned from Lancelot that they are okay as well.  They are a good match :-).

New puzzle!

Without Further Ado...Finally

At this point I just have a few takeaways...

I guess I should have know that a Christmas card featuring two retired racehorses would end up as a photo finish ;-).

I finally found the painting...already in the scanner.  The almost two hours I spent looking for it...I'm never getting back.

It should be noted that even if the house had been clean and tidy...it wouldn't have helped.  So there.

Th-th-th-that's all folks ;-D.

Merry Christmas!

Frankie Got A Pony For Christmas

Santa has been keeping an eye on Frankie all year and since he's been such a good boy, he gave him exactly what he's been wishing for, a friend.  Meet Lancelot :-).

Lancelot is a 19 year old Standardbred gelding we just adopted from New Vocation Racehorse Adoption Program.  Lancelot raced until 2005 and then transitioned into a show horse for several years and is now semi-retired.  Frankie is completely smitten.

We got him home late yesterday afternoon.  He stayed in the arena last night. I put Frankie in there with him after breakfast and then after lunch I moved them both to the front field.  After being completely quiet in the arena, I wasn't expecting the show they put on when they hit the big field.

I think Lancelot is pretty happy, too :-).

"Are you really real?"
