Snow Warriors

This was just a split second standing still shot, but I have to laugh at how those two silly boys look like they are the bravest of warriors standing tall as a huge attacker charges their way.

Really, Levi was just bouncing around in front of them trying to get them to play tag or chase or whatever sheep play when they don't have a space ship to defend.

This is a new puzzle!  I hope you have as much working it as Mini Moose had creating it :-D.

A fun snow video from yesterday.  That's Big Moose chewing over the background music :-).

Spring Shearing

Our favorite shearer, Bill Haudenschield, was in town for a few days last week (with his nephew Dustin :-) so we decided to go ahead and shear a week or so early this year.  It was a beautiful day, the company was good, the sheep all behaved (mostly ;-) and the fleeces look good.  Here are some of my favorite pictures.

Rebecca Boone

Woody

Muffin

Biscuit...all those pretty curls :'-(.

The video.

Note Liddy in the background.  Just after I took this picture, she stuck her head through the gate and grabbed a packet of french fries!

Clover Belly

Chocula

The Little Darlin'...

...who actually behaved quite well this year!

This is the extended version of the video I posted the other day.  I just love these!

You'll notice a few sheep didn't get shorn.  They are the oldies who don't have enough fat on them (Allie, Annabelly, Billy Belly and Mrs. Pepperpot) for me to feel comfortable taking away their woolly jumpers before we are certain the cold is over for the year.

After a couple weeks of 70s and 80s, we have now, of course, turned a bit colder, but with the barn shut up when it's windy and plenty of hay in front of them, everyone is doing okay.  The warm sunshine has been appreciated though for sure.  And look at that green grass and bright blue sky!  It matches my hat :-D.

And here's a new puzzle!  Enjoy :-).

Warm Winter Sun

It can be way down in the teens, even single digits, and as long as it's not windy and the sun is shining, it feels warm to me. Some more pictures from the Del Boca Vista Distraction Party the other day.

Maisie

Heidi - who's foot is all better now since I popped a big mud ball from between her toes after the Boxing Day cookie party :-).

That is Muffin (!) standing just to the right of Levi in the foreground.

A little slice of heaven...and two new puzzles :-).

Enjoy!

Some Sunday Sheep Shots

It was a beautiful day.  I worked outside on the Wool House porch as much as I could and when I could stand it no longer, I grabbed my camera and headed out back with the sheep.

Levi, Bullwinkle, Chocula

Mr. Handsome Hank

Can you believe that is baby Bullwinkle?!?

Chocula and Levi

The Bud-man

Levi and Bullwinkle are still good brothers.

In fact, they say Biscuit and Muffin ain't got nothin' on them and now they even have a puzzle to prove it!

Three Ts

We are getting close to being ready for the Kentucky Wool Festival this weekend.  I have something fun planned for any blog readers coming to the festival.  Stay tuned!

Fleece Fun

Anyone who's been around lambs and ewes in the springtime knows that frantic "I CAN'T FIND MY MOM!!!" call.  It's nothing serious usually.  Kids get playing, moms go hide to smoke cigarettes and drink gin, kids can't IMMEDIATELY find them and the frantic crying starts.

That's what's going on in my kitchen right now.  Except I'm just trying to use the computer...and just thinking about taking up drinking at 7:00 in the morning :-o.  So really quickly...

Someone emailed me about wanting Baaxter's fleece.  I have 1,168 emails built up in my inbox right now.  I did not know that was even possible (as she really starts thinking about maybe some Baileys for her coffee :-o).  I can't find that email.  Hopefully you'll see this and re-email.  I am so sorry!

Here are some quick shots (I'M RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER, BISCUIT!) of just a few of the fleeces We'll have at the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival this weekend.  The forecast is looking "stellar" as usual :-/.  Sigh...  Pretty much everything is under cover though, so come on out!

Levi

Daniel on the left and Tavia on the right.  Daniel is reserved and I'm keeping Tavia, but I thought the difference in fleece size was fun.

Andy

Murphy

Woody - half is reserved

And don't forget all the cute fleece tags!  Remember why Burrnie is now Blindfold Burrnie? You'll be in on the joke if/when Bill pulls that this weekend ;-).  He'll be there shearing both days.  Please stop by the shearing area and give him a shout out and say thanks for taking such good care of our sheep.

Shearing Day

I really wanted to title this Hair Cut Day, but I guess it's technically Haircut Day...which just looks wrong...but I looked it up...so I decided to just go with Shearing Day and avoid the entire situation ;-).

Shearing Day, other than being a long, hard day for Bill, went off without a hitch.  I had a ton of great help and company and for the most part the sheep behaved very well, even Petunia.  Maisie again got her new 'do standing up...and only bit me once.  We'll put that in the "win" column haha.

Rebecca Boone now aka Rebecca Two

I'd love to know what Willard is telling Baaxter.  Or maybe I wouldn't.  Except Willard is a sheep of Impeccable Character, so he's probably just laughing because Bill hit a ticklish spot or something :-).

And that is Baaxter under that huge pile of wool!

This is Tavia, who actually was sheared at the end of the day, but I wanted to put her picture in here after one of the big sheep to show either how big they are or how little the Jacobs are.

The last picture of the "babies" - Bullwinkle and Levi working Rebecca Three pretty hard for either a cookie or to open the gate so they wouldn't have to get their big boy haircuts (haircuts with an s looks fine ;-). With Liddy, Andy and Woody.

An extra special treat this year was/is (looks like I need to go back to English class :-/) the fleece tags. Dana gave each sheep the sweetest sketch of them being sheared, their name fancied up and some even got little notes about what was talked about or happened while they were being shorn.

They are beyond adorable!

Her husband documented each one, thankfully, before any lanolin soaked into them.  After the fact it was pointed out that I could have stuck each one in a plastic sleeve.  Maybe she'll come back next year wink wink ;-).

We all liked that Little Liddy got a pink sheet :-).

And here he is...the one you've been waiting for...Momma's Lil' Butterball :-D.

That's Rebecca One raking up.  The numbers are in order of how long I've known each.  Rebecca One spun the original Punkin yarn for me years ago, long before I ever dreamed I'd have a flock of sheep and be spinning yarn myself :-).

"This is really not what I expected."

All grown up (sniffle).

Bill pulled a great trick on me again this year.  I'll post that story tomorrow.  Poor Burrnie... ;-)
