Pick Your Pillow

There has been a lot of this going on around here...but only for our four legged friends. Fall is a busy time of the year anyway and I'm also trying to get things finished up for the Kentucky Wool Festival, which is just a couple weeks away - yikes!

Miss Emily and her youngest baby, Caspar Belly. They sleep like this all the time. Caspar Belly has a lovely fleece, but the best we can figure some sort of sheep IBS. After trying to treat it for over a year, the advice was to cull her.

Even if she didn't have a nice fleece, there is no way I could stand to take her away from her momma.

Poor Woolliam doesn't have such a comfy pillow.

At least Joshua has some straw padding for his.

Don't let the big stretch fool you. He was not fixing to "go make the donuts". Just repositioning.

Elizabeth: Is there something we can help you with?

I think your sheep are the luckiest sheep in the world :-)
Thanks for being an inspiration.

What a hard working bunch! It's almost like watching the grass grow. ;-) I'm the same way about separating some individuals--they are so bonded that there is no way I could do it.

Poor Caspar Belly! I hope it clears up on its own by some miracle. I would love to be snoozing like that!

Your sheep are so beautiful and they look so peaceful. We don't have sheep but I would love to add them. Any recommendations on a variety for children, petting and such?
Thanks, Amy at Verde Farm

I got stuck on "IBS" and have to think now what that is....
Lovely sheep photos. I love the spots and speckles.

IBS - irritable bowel syndrome. She's fine on pelleted food and hay, but can't handle green grass. Which we haven't had in a long while here, but it's sprinkling rain right now so everyone cross your fingers.

Well, hard to say...the longwools are really sweet, but most need to be shorn twice a year so are higher maintenance. All of our crosses are really nice and laid back - Boudreaux, Petunia, Ewen, Keebs... Many Jacobs and Shetlands, while popular, are pretty flighty - although some breeders seem to have friendly Shetlands. Regardless of what you pick, spend some time with them when they are young and teach them to eat cookies and walk on a lead. These two "tricks" will serve you well in many situations ;-).
