Winter Fashion Review

Renny now has a "turn out rug". Her wool "stable blanket" is perfect for indoor wear, but not very wind resistant, so Stella and I retired yet another horse blanket last night.

The yarn surcingle is practical but also sentimental. That yarn was a piece of the original Punkin yarn spun by my friend Rebecca almost 10 years ago. If there was ever another sheep who proved sheep aren't "always looking for an excuse to die", it would have been Punkin. He's still holding us all together.

By the way, doesn't Renny have the cutest mouth?

We've kept Renny very separate from the rest of the flock since she's been here. I doubted she'd ever be able to go out with them anyway. I'm pretty sure she'll never have use of her left back leg and that's a bit of a rough, clicky crowd out there. Besides, just hearing or seeing Iris and Weaslie in the barn aisleway scares her to death. I knew there'd be no way she'd ever accept that Hank was not a threat.

She hasn't shown any sign of any communicable diseases and this morning I let the main flock again have access to the back of the barn - an adjoining paddock. She was very excited to see everyone up close, especially with her bodyguard at her side.

Keebler was the first to approach - probably because he wanted to see who was Getting So Much Attention around here. Renny boldly (as if there was any other way) left Ewenice and walked right up. And look who else is there!

Ewenice told me you were different than other dogs. That you were okay. My name is Renny.

Hi Renny. I'm Hank.

I was speechless.

And then, just like that, it was time for breakfast :-).

My heart contracts for Renny. What a sweet narrative, Sara. We're all pulling for her. And Hank has such an amazing face, doesn't he?

Brought tears to my eyes. I didn't look up the story (I took your word for it that it was horrible) and I can figure it was a dog. So glad that Renny got to say hello to Hank and Keebs.

You are getting pretty handy with Renny's new wardrobe. Yes, she has a beautiful mouth and spirit. What a sweet girl. I'm so glad she showed interest in the other sheep and Hank.
You are one special Mom.

It is amazing watching Renny come back from whatever 'hell on earth' she had to endure. Are you planning on keeping her?

Renny can stay as long as she wants, but I have to say, if Louanne ever moved to a farm I think Renny would pack her bags. She LOVES Louanne.

The Punkin yarn is a very nice touch. I'm sure he's looking in on the situation. It's good to see her with Hank!

We are finding coyote scat in the creek. Even though he's in a fenced enclosure, we've begun locking Finley in at night. He doesn't like it, but he can be bribed with a cookie!

Renny is full of surprises. Look how far she's come in a week or so! She may surprise you yet with both her physical healing and becoming part of the flock.

I laughed at the especially appropriate touch of the wool yarn surcingle. :-) Then I read how special it was. The pictures and your narrative made my eyes leak. Lucky at last little Renny.

I knew she'd figure Hank out! My sheep make a living getting chased by dogs and they love their guardian dog. It just took a little while. BTW, doesn't Renny look like an escapee from our flock? We have a bunch of nondescript black babies. Maybe she got chased all the way down to KY by that horrible neighbor dog.

Awe, I love Hank. He's such a good boy. Glad Renny is up and moving. I know you're doing everything you can for her. She couldn't have found a better home.

I KNEW Renny would be okay with Hank. In fact, I think she'll be okay with everybody. Sorry Weaslie and Iris, but maybe she just doesn't like anklebiters.

Well, I have discovered there is a great deal of communication in silence. I am convinced Hank's reputation preceeded him for Renny. I expect that very sturdy fence is very reasuring to her!

She is a brave soul and an example to follow.
