Water Water Everywhere

We frequently get the opportunity to go fun places, but seldom enjoy being just tourists, in the strictest sense. Lori Skoog does such a great job describing her farm, her town, neighboring towns, heck, her grocery store, that I can't imagine anyone not wanting to go visit Brockport, New York.

The Erie Canal. When boats come through, the bridges are elevated to pass under. We just missed seeing one come through. There is a really nice welcome center where travelers can dock, grab a wagon to walk into town and bring back groceries and supplies, borrow a bike, take a shower, access the internet...

Even in the rain I was tempted to check out a bike.

Barges were originally pulled up and down the canal by teams of mules.

Neat art everywhere. Of course.

Holley Falls. The next day. In beautiful, bright sunlight. If I'm understanding correctly, the canal runs over the top of this spillway and all the creeks...along the way.

Pretty, pretty.

Thank you Lori and Gary for taking the time to share your beautiful, interesting, friendly, yummy and furry part of the world. You are wonderful ambassadors and gracious hosts. What a treat!

The first picture with the bridge reminds me of the Erie Canal Song lyrics, “Low bridge, everybody down.....and you’ll always know your neighbor... on the Erie Canal."
Lori has a delightful blog with a great selection of music as well. Lucky you to have made such a wonderful friend!

It sounds like you had a FUN weekend! I love waterfalls. I've been to Niagara Falls (the Canadian side)and would love to see many more. Although, it seems to me that it will be hard to top Niagara Falls! I would love to tour some of the ones in South America...

I was talking with my husband about those barges and the locks and how they go up and down. Love the pictures.
