Chicken No

When one particular chicken makes a sheep blog twice, it's a sign...of something. When a cardboard box with airholes cut in it shows up at your door Nancy K...well, there's your sign ;-).

So what has Chicken No done (this time)? She didn't come home the other night. Free range chickens are pretty easy pickings for a hawk, coyote, Comby, so I naturally feared the worst. (Luckily?) she didn't take long to find.

In the VERY FIRST PLACE any idiot would think to look, Chicken No. Not too creative there, toots. But I guess you sort of have an excuse as you've been working so hard to stockpile 21 eggs! 21 unfertilized, too risky to feed to the dogs, going into the compost pile eggs.

Yeesh.

Yes, that would be the "scene of the crime". Not a happy chicken face!

poor girl is she ever going to be disappointed that all her hard work is for naught...kinda sad! But good news that she didn't get eaten

Wow! that's a lot of eggs to lay in how many days? I don't get why you can't eat them. At least she is safe and sound.

I agree with Linda; get the poor, hard-working girl a rooster!

Hey...just so happens I got your rooster right here. Several to choose from actually. lol

Good luck with burying the eggs in the compost pile to save the dogs. Our farm dogs would have left them there for two weeks then dug them up and eaten them if they liked them in the first place. Those dogs would eat the most disgusting things.

Well, we can't blame Chicken No. We've been trying hard to hide our eggs from the Shepherdess for some time. The problem is she keeps finding them. No the younger hens are starting to lay and she won't let them outside of the barn. She goes around mumbling about wanting to find her eggs. HER eggs, indeed.

Do you mean stinky eggs? That's something you never forget and don't want to experience again.

That is a lot of eggs! I can't even imagine trying to keep track of that many babies! Can you get her some fertilized eggs? (Of course it is a little late in the season to be hatching...)
