I Had To

We love the stonework in front of the wool house, especially the huge rocks that make up the country sidewalk. There are spaces between some of the rocks - naturally - and we've played around with how to finish them out and decided to try planting a walkable ground cover to fill in the spaces, add some cool color and dress it up a little.

When I saw this at the nursery....I had to.

I'm not so sure how to "protect in winter" there between those rocks though and it's important that I do. Any suggestions?

I guess I could hire Iris to be a Plant Guardian Dog and sit on them ;-).

Inside the wool house - lots of wool washing happening...finally. I just love the set up and the drying racks...

...and being able to use the big table to work on painting projects between washes.

I hate the perspective issues of trying to take long pictures with too many lines and too many angles though. I swear it doesn't look like a Dr. Seuss house. Any suggestions on that?

What a great name for the most perfect plant for your wool house. It should add a great fragrance as well. Will you have to plant them in pots so you can bring them in during the winter?
You have been quite ambitious in washing the fleece. The room looks exactly as busy as I imagined.
And painting, too! You really have been as busy as your bees!

I love rocks/stones, and planting inbetween them will be great to see next Spring. Gosh, you've been busy after the morning cup of coffee.

Well,... I never imagined anyone would WANT thyme but I have to admit the variety is too perfect for you, and it does look very nice with your stones. Here, it makes up a large percentage of my lawn. I couldn't get rid of it with a nuclear bomb. It overwinters just fine, and Lord knows, our winters are harsher than yours...hmmm. It smells really nice when you walk on it, but I think I'd rather have grass. Wanna trade?

I love Thyme. And that one is perfect for you! And it will smell so nice when you walk on it, or the sun is shining on it! Just lovely!

And your wool house is another accomplishment to be proud of!

Nothing better than Thyme in a walkway. I have always loved the look of it.

BTW, I'm stealing your drying rack idea. I'm redoing my laundry room and want to do something similar for drying either wool or sweaters.

What a wonderful remembrance to the Doonebug. Bless her heart. I have different thymes between all the stones in the courtyard, and I've never lost any over the winter. I think yours will be just fine. I think you also need some Lambs' Ears. I have plenty if you want to dig some up. Also, I have a hydrangea called "Little Lamb" that I'm pretty sure is available in the nurseries now, just in case you want an ovine-themed garden!

We stopped at a spinning store today and snagged a deal on some beautiful roving. Brian was identifying spindles and asking if that is what he will learn on at your place. He also saw a loom for the first time and had all kinds of questions. I am deferring them for you to answer! I'd best get on those tickets....

Way beyond my area of expertise! But I like the idea of planting in between the walkway rocks. :D It should look great, when they blossom :)

The only thing I would change on the drying racks is to use a smaller opening wire mesh. For skirting it's perfect, but a little too open for clean wool.

We have goats, but seeing your set up is almost enough to make me want sheep :O)...
